The Importance of a 5 point harness

THE IMPORTANCE OF A 5 point HARNESS: Have you moved your child to a booster seat without a 5 point harness before they are 4 years plus 40 pounds.
Please watch this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=azgBhZfcqaQ

The most dangerous car seat MISTAKES:

Moving a child less than 1 year PLUS 20 pounds to forward facing. Keeping them rear facing even to 18 months is better. If you child is 9 months and 25 pounds they must still be REAR facing. If your child is 15 months and 18 pounds they must still be REAR facing

Taking a child out of 5 point harness before they are 4 years PLUS 40 pounds. And the car seat must be TOP tethered into your car. Car seat belts can fail. The tether protects your child. The BRITAX car seat has a 5 point harness that goes to 65 pounds.

Leaving a child in a regular 5 point harness after 40 pounds. Only the BRITAX car seat harness can go beyond 40 pounds. Using a regular car seat with harness after 40 pounds put your child at risk for it breaking. If you child is over 40 pounds but under age 5 get the BRITAX car seat with stronger harness.

Taking a child out of a booster seat before 6 years PLUS 60 pounds (some states say 8 years PLUS 80 pounds). Actually it is recommended that a child stay in a booster seat until they are 4 foot 8 inches in order to have a regular seat belt fit them safely.

the following companies make 5-point harness car seats that go between 55 and 80 points forward facing:

forward facing only:
Fisher Price Safe voyage Deluxe - 55 pounds
Cosco Alpha Elite Apex - 65 pounds

rear and forward facing from 5 pounds:
sunshine kids radian65 - 65 pounds
sunshine kids radian80 - 80 pounds, but same height limit as radian 65.

each of these carseats is less expensive than the britax and gives parents with lower budgets other options when looking for the safest seat for their child.

There are actually a few more seats on the market now then there was before that allow parents to keep children safe. I am a strong advocate for keeping my child in a five point harness as long as possible. I have two of the sunshine kids radian 80's. The allow you to keep your child in a five point harness up to eighty pounds. I love them. And my children love them. I will be buying a third in a few days.
